ADVISOR DEVELOPMENT SEMINAR

The North East Regional Law Enforcement Educational Association (NERLEEA) regularly organizes a training event specifically designed for youth cadet program advisors. The primary objective of this course is to establish an open yet structured platform, enabling advisors to develop a safe, principled, and effective program for the youth members under their guidance. The focus is on empowering advisors to take responsibility for all activities, ensuring that cadets learn the art of decision-making and ethical choices.

The comprehensive event will delve into various essential topics, encompassing the definition of the purpose and goals of youth cadet programs, effective methods for running such programs, the roles and positions of adult leadership within cadet programs, key success factors, and experiential learning. Advisors will explore community events and fundraising options, engage in discussions on a problem-solving model and quality control, and participate in a hands-on training activity for conducting meetings. Discipline procedures, addressing hazing and bullying, will also be thoroughly examined.

Furthermore, the workshop will cover aspects such as reviewing the cadet handbook, administration, and operations manual, along with discussions on the summer academy and competitions. The event will also address online registration processes, streamlining the registration and information tracking for cadets. This course presents a valuable opportunity for advisors to acquire new knowledge and skills essential for creating a secure and effective program for the youth members.

NERLEEA envisions that this training will result in fully invested advisors, contributing to the success and impact of their cadet programs. In summary, the NERLEEA’s training event serves as a comprehensive resource for youth cadet program advisors, fostering the creation of safe, principled, and effective programs.
