MERIDEN — Several city police cadets were recognized earlier this month as part of the first annual Meriden Police Cadet Award Ceremony.

The cadet program was established in 2014 after the Meriden Police Explorers were disbanded. Officer James Decrisantis serves as the program’s lead advisor, while Officer Jeff Witkin and five civilians also serve as advisors. There are more than 24 people in the program ranging from 14 to 21 years old.

“The program is an intense, comprehensive education in modern law enforcement,” states a post on the police department’s Facebook page. “The cadets are organized along a paramilitary line which mirrors that of the Meriden Police Department. The cadet program prides itself on its dedication to the city of Meriden and service to its citizens.”

During a ceremony on Nov. 10, 11 cadets were recognized for their efforts.
