It is with the deepest sympathy that we reflect on the tragic loss of our brothers in blue, Sergeant Dustin Demonte, and Officer Alex Hamzy of the Bristol Police Department. The third Officer on scene, 26-year-old, Officer Alec Iurato was seriously injured. Officer Iurato was transported to St Francis Hospital where he underwent surgery for a serious gunshot wound. He has been released from surgery and is currently in recovery, fighting for his life.
Sgt. Dustin Demonte was hired by the Bristol Police Department in 2012. He was assigned to the patrol division. Sgt Demonte was also assigned as a School Resource Officer and was an advisor for the Bristol Police Cadets. He was 35 years old and survived but his wife Laura and young children Pheobe and Porter, and a baby on the way.
Officer Alex Hamzy was hired by the Bristol Police Department in 2014. He was assigned to Bristol’s patrol division, he was a member of the Central Regional Emergency Response team and was an Advisor for the Bristol Police Cadet Program. He was 34 years old, survived by his wife Katie, his parents and two sisters.
The NERLEEA family extends our deepest condolences to the Bristol Connecticut Police Department as well as the family and friends of the two officers who were taken from us. They have suffered an immense loss and we grieve together as one law enforcement family. We humbly offer any assistance we can provide to help ease the pain on this sad day and the days ahead.
