NERLEEA and Westfield State University have enjoyed a long-standing and successful partnership. NERLEEA has been hosting a week-long residential academy at the called the Cadet Police Academy for many years. This event was a great success offering a unique and immersive learning experience for high school students interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement.
In 2019, NERLEEA moved the academy to Westfield State University in Massachusetts, a decision that has proven to be an excellent one. The university provides a secure and supportive environment for the cadets, with access to state-of-the-art facilities that support the academy’s mission. The university staff has been supportive, and the academy has thrived at this location. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, NERLEEA had to put many of its programs on hold for the safety of the cadets and advisors in 2020.
However, NERLEEA made a strong comeback in 2022, returning to Westfield State University for the first Cadet Police Academy in two years. This event was a tremendous success, and it was heartening to see so many young people excited about learning about law enforcement and public safety. This academy also marked the beginning of a new era of collaboration between NERLEEA and Westfield State University, with plans to continue using this venue for the Cadet Police Academy for the foreseeable future.
Moreover, Westfield State University demonstrated its commitment to NERLEEA’s cadets by authorizing admission for any cadet who attended the 2022 Cadet Police Academy and met the university’s educational requirements. They also offered a sizable scholarship to these cadets, demonstrating their dedication to supporting the next generation of law enforcement professionals.
The relationship between NERLEEA and Westfield State University is mutually beneficial and reflects the dedication and commitment of both organizations to providing young people with the knowledge and skills they need to pursue careers in law enforcement and public safety.
